- I recently purchased a USR Sportster Winmodem 28.8 internal. I am happy
- with the improvement from the RPI 14.4 I had (Zoom), but I would like to ask a few questions
- about the Winmodem...
-
- 1) Could I get more performance out of it? (sustained transfer of zipped files is around 2.7 K)
-
- 2) Should I buy a 16550 UART for my Winmodem?
- I have an older computer with a 8250 UART, and the last modem I used
- (int 14.4) had its own 16550 UART. The Winmodem does not seem to have its own UART (at least it
- didn't show up when I ran MSD... please correct me if I am wrong) Maybe something about the
- Winmodem's design eliminates the need for a 16550 UART???
-
- 3) Why won't the Winmodem give me the option during configuration to choose 02F8 as the address
- for com2? That, with irq = 3, was what I used for my old modem.
-
- 4) What Winsock, DTE, etc... settings have given the best (throughput) results? I am using 536,
- 576, 2144, and 57,600 as the settings in my winsock.
-
- Thank you for answering these questions.
